With two days, twelve site visit options and countless opportunities… attending PR eLevated is a no-brainer for communications students
"Wait, why should I attend?" Don’t worry, I have your answer.
PR eLevated – the 2023 PRSSA Midwest District Conference – is chocked full of beneficial takeaways for attendees. View some of the highlights below.
Who should attend?
Whether you're a grad student or a freshman, PR eLevated is open for you. The team is excited to welcome students of all ages from multiple states around the country. Recent grads can also attend to take advantage of PR eLevated’s programming.
Public relations, communications, marketing, advertising, and digital media students will gain insights from our diverse programs. For more info, view the conference programming breakdown.
Grow your network.
One of the conference’s main goals is for students to build their networks and understandings of Chicago’s communications industry.
As a comms student, Chicago is a prime communications market to consider post graduation. The Windy City is home to 100+ agencies and countless opportunities to eLevate your career. Attendees of PR eLevated will visit two agencies of their choice – and interact with professionals from many more.
The conference’s site visits will include visiting the practice’s offices, meet and greets with team members, Q&A sessions and opportunities to hear about future internship and employment opportunities. Never underestimate making a good impression with professionals.
Aside from site visits, PR eLevated will facilitate several planned networking breaks. Take these opportunities to meet with professionals that are eager to get to know you and hear about your perspectives.
Oh, and don’t forget the current students and other attendees you’ll meet and interact with!
Increase your skills.
We all constantly look for ways to improve our skillsets… PR eLevated will add to this effort.
During the two-day conference you will hear directly from future employers on their practices and ways to stand out as you submit your applications. These lessons, alongside those provided by agencies and in-house teams during site visits, will provide practical knowhow on top of your classroom instruction.
Speaking of practicality: Get your resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profiles reviewed by professionals from G&S Business Communications on Thursday. Take this time to ask questions and learn from top-notch practitioners who serve as hiring managers themselves.
eLevate your perspectives.
“eLevate” isn’t just a play on Chicago’s iconic L-trains… It's the main goal of this conference. Throughout programming and alongside networking and skill-building, attendees will leave Chicago with an eLevated view of the industry we will all enter soon.
This eLevation begins on Thursday afternoon during the career sessions. Learn about the presence and future of influencers, the power of a boutique firm to do global work and the importance of having business acumen while working on an organization’s comms team.
After the afternoon career sessions, Thursday will host a stellar DEI&A Panel to discuss the importance of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility in our field. Another panel featuring chief executives of comms practices is scheduled for Friday.
Whether as part of a panel or during a networking break, discussions on company values, eye-opening campaigns and CSR are just a few of the many topics that will be covered during the conference. Each of these will build on existing knowledge to create a more-well-rounded, eLevated view of the field.
